The forerunner to 'Golf', records show 'Colf' was played in Holland from 1297. This print shows the game of colf being played to a stake or post on ice. It was followed by the game of 'Kolf' which was a shortened version of colf and again played to a post. These games are also referred to as 'Het Kolven' and The Scottish game of golf developed independently on the links terrain available in Scotland and to a hole in the ground.
