The fine original drypoint etching is on antique laid paper. Signed by the artist in pencil in the lower left margin. John Rankine Barclay (1884-1962) was an important artist and engraver from Edinburgh. He was a golfer himself and illustrated for Golf Illustrated magazine in the 1920's. A drypoint is traditionally done on copper plate, the image is engraved with an etching needle to create an impression of drawing. When inked the plate can then be printed from again and again to produce an edition of prints. Circa 1920s.
