First Prize, Pinehurst Golf Club Trophy, dated March 11, 1902. Tankard stamped 'James W. Tufts, Boston Mass #4430' James Walker Tufts was born on February 11th, 1835. At age of 27, he founded the Arctic Soda Fountain Company, and he began working as a silver-plater in 1875. He made a multitude of silver-plated products of the double- , triple-, and quadruple- plate varieties. Mr. Tufts had purchased 500 acres of land in Pinehurst, N.C. and over the year he expanded the settlement acquiring an additional 5,500 acres in the process. This historic trophy was produced by James W. Tufts production.
