Rare Secretarial Golf Desk by Stephen Courtney. Made of Maple, Copper-plated cast bronze, glass, leather, and golf tees. This work of art desk is presented in our Auction and one more is on a permanent display at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Courtney chose golf tees to fill the curved glass top because of their texture and because they were made of maple, which is one theme of the desk. The shape of the legs suggests golf tees. The hammered copper front recalls a pile of maple leaves turned brown in the late fall. The lid folds down to reveal a pair of Doric columns, behind which rows of spindles form cubbyholes.
